NEWTOWN, Connecticut Fairfield Hills Campus Information Booth. I started work on my Eagle Scout Capstone Project in 2016 when I was 14 years old. My inital idea was to create a trailhead information kiosk. That idea morphed into a large public information booth on the campus of Fairfield Hills. The location was very important to me because I had grown up playing baseball at Glander Field on the campus.

I first need to get approval from the Fairfield Hills Authority, so I decided to hand write ten letters to each member of the Fairfiled Hills Authority board. To my surprise they responded to my letters and invited me to present my project at their committee meeting. With the help of my family I created this Powerpoint Presentation explaining the details of the project. I made my presentation to the committee in 2017 when I was 16 years old; I addressed the committee alone without adult supervision or hand-holding. My NYLT leadership training had prepared me for public speaking. The committee was so impressed with my presentation that they unanimously voted to approved the project.

I then raised funds from family, friends, and neighbors via GoFundMe. I also convinced local companies to donate the materials needed for the project. We broke ground in April of 2018 and proceeded to slowly construct the project over the next year and half. There where many obstacles that I encountered during the building process. At one point my project was even vandalized with spray paint during the 2019 Halloween holiday. By May of 2020 the project was complete and had passed all inspections. I then received an official Certificate of Occupancy from Newtown. I am very very proud to have completed this legacy project that will last hundreds of years. My wish is that it is used and enjoyed by all future generatiosn of Newtowners.
